Alanine aminotransferase (ALT; also known as GPT) acts as a marker for liver damage.  ALT is more specific than AST (aspartate aminotransferase)

Frequent lipid and liver evaluations are recommended for patients on lipid lowering and diabetes drugs. Liver function tests, such as ALT, should be performed prior to the initiation of these therapies, and regularly thereafter. Approximate testing frequency is twice yearly for statins and 6 times yearly for glitazones.

Benefits of ALT Testing

COMPLETE LIPID MONITORING + LIVER FUNCTION ON A SINGLE INSTRUMENT - Now the Cholestech L·D·X ® System can provide complete lipid and liver function monitoring for those patients using lipid lowering drugs and glitazones.

IMMEDIATE TEST RESULTS - Immediate ALT and Lipid results will reduce the need for scheduling more appointments. This and the ability to offer immediate consultation will increase patient confidence.

OFFER BETTER PATIENT CARE - Differentiate your practice by offering convenient lipid/liver on-site. By providing rapid diagnostic tests, you can monitor patient compliance to treatment during a single clinic visit. Rapid in-clinic results offer an opportunity for immediate patient counseling. You can reinforce the importance of controlling cholesterol/lipid levels to achieve cardiovascular health.

ALT testing can now be included as part of your routine therapeutic monitoring. The Cholestech L· D· X ® is the only system of its kind that can produce accurate results in 5 minutes.
